LiteManager Free

LiteManager Free is the no-cost edition of LiteManager, a Windows-centred remote administration tool for technicians who look after a small office, a school lab or a handful of family PCs. If you are after a LiteManager Free download, note that there is no separate program: the same installer contains Pro and Free, and the Free mode lets you control up to 30 computers without paying.

It is built around a classic Server/Viewer pair. You install LiteManager Server on each machine you manage, keep LiteManager Viewer on your own PC, and connect either directly by IP address over the LAN or VPN, or by ID through the vendor’s NoIP relay when the remote PC sits behind NAT.

How IT teams use it

Unattended access to office PCs over the LAN or VPN

1. Run the installer on the remote PC and choose LiteManager Server only.
2. Open the Server settings and set an access password before anything else.
3. On your workstation install LiteManager Viewer, choose Add connection, enter the PC’s IP address or DNS name and the password.
4. Pick a mode (Control, View, File transfer, Task manager) by double-clicking the connection.

If your technicians work from home, put the office behind a VPN such as WireGuard or OpenVPN and keep using direct IP connections. Port 5650 then never has to be opened to the internet.

Ad-hoc help for a user who has nothing installed

1. Send the user the QuickSupport server executable published by LiteManager.
2. The user runs it without installing anything and reads you the ID it shows.
3. In Viewer, add a connection by ID, enter that ID and start a Control session.
4. When the user closes the window, nothing stays behind on their PC.

Checking what is stored where

Server parameters live in the registry, which is useful when you script a rollout or need to confirm that a PC is configured the way you expect:

Viewer data, including your address book, is kept under C:ProgramDataLiteManager Files. Back that folder up before reinstalling a technician’s PC.

Install and first run

Windows. One installer of about 40 MB contains both Pro and Free; you choose the Viewer, the Server or both. The Server integrates with Windows Firewall during setup. If the firewall was off at that moment, add the Server to the exceptions yourself. Install the Server with admin rights so it runs as a service and survives reboots.

macOS, Linux, Android, iOS. These builds combine Viewer, Server and the NoIP window in one app; you can restrict it to Viewer-only or Server-only in settings. On macOS (Catalina and later) you must allow LiteManager under Privacy & Security for Accessibility and Screen Recording, otherwise you will see a black or frozen screen. Version 5.2 added a console app (daemon) for Linux servers.

Ports and gotchas.

• Direct connections use TCP 5650 on the Server; ID connections use outbound TCP 5651. Both can be changed.
• By default ID connections go through the developer’s main NoIP server, which is located in Russia. For organisations outside that region this adds latency, and some compliance teams will not accept it. Prefer direct connections over your own VPN, or evaluate a private NoIP router, which is a Pro feature.

Limitations

• Hard limit of 30 managed computers in the Free edition.
• Pro-only features include RDP, the screen recorder, device manager, registry editor, address books, audio/video chat, timer mode, the tickets system and NoIP server settings.
• Development is slow: 5.2 came three years after the previous major update, and the official download page does not publish exact build numbers.
• The macOS, Linux and mobile apps do not match the Windows feature set.
• Documentation is thin in English, and the default relay location will not suit every organisation.

LiteManager Free vs alternatives

Remote Utilities is the closest match: a similar Viewer/Host model with a free licence for 10 PCs, more current Windows builds and native macOS and Linux hosts. MeshCentral is free and open source with no device limit, and everything runs on your own server through a browser, but you have to host and maintain it. RustDesk fits better if you want an AnyDesk-style ID workflow on a relay you control.
